Flashfader Plugin

Put a flash slideshow on your site
Latest release (September 2005): Flashfader 1.1.1

Download
Features

  • “No” loading time. The flash file is 2 KB, the images are loaded dynamically one by one
  • Can be integrated in template files, not in post and pages (maybe with the php code plugin)
  • No limitation in size of the flash movie
  • Option for valid xhtml flash code

Requirements

  • Works with WordPress 1.5 up to 3.0.1
  • Notice to 2.7 users: the menu is under “Posts”
  • Requires the flash plugin 6 or higher on the client side (Browser)

Demo

  • In the sidebar of this page you should see a small slideshow. If you dont, please drop me a line with your browser and operating system versions! thx

How to use

0. Update to 1.1.1
If you update to 1.1.1 just copy flashfader.php in your plugins directory,
go to the flashfader admin and press Save in the Display Settings.
1. Install:
Copy the 2 files flashfader.php and flashfader.swf in the plugins directory (wp-content/plugins). Activate the plugin. Go to “Manage” in the admin panel, open submenu item “Flashfader”. The flashfader admin was moved to “Posts” since version 2.7.
2. Usage:
If you see the settings and upload page, the installation went fine. Upload 2 images for a test-drive.
Now you need to open one of the files of your current template. Assuming you use the default template (wp-content/themes/default), open sidebar.php and place the following code directly under
<div id=”sidebar”>

<?php
include (ABSPATH."wp-content/flashfader/flashfaderhtml.txt");
?>

Upload sidebar.php in the template’s directory. Reload your WP homepage and you should see your slideshow.
sidebar.php was just an example. You can place the code in any template file, just make sure it is placed in html and not within < ?php ?> tags.
3. Uninstallation:
First remove the code that calls the flash in the template! You might get an ugly error message on your page otherwise.

The plugin creates one folder (wp-content/flashfader) and some files. Your images are stored in that folder as well. To remove the plugin just use the uninstall button at the bottom of the admin page. You could try to delete the folder via FTP, but some servers won’t let you because of permission settings. That’s why the uninstall button is there for.

Note on sizes
If you have a working slideshow and change the size in the display settings, the current images won’t be resized. You have to re-upload them so they are cropped according to the new settings.
suggestions, bug reports always appreciated :) .

[...] lynk has released a plugin that implements a flash based slideshow. All images are uploaded via the admin panel, and only a simple line of code needs to be dropped into the template of choice, including the sidebar, as the author demos at his site. [...]

Brilliant – fantastic and apart from that, it is really really good. Have it operating in my header :)

  • Shadow

    Hi Marcus,

I have replaced the older version with your new one from above. It appears to be working ok. Still getting validation errors, but I can live with that for the moment.

    Using Firefox 1.0.6

I am very pleased with how your fader works. Thanks very much for sharing it :)

  • Jim Wurster

That is very cool. Installation is quick and easy, just what I like. I have it working in my sidebar. Now, I may even try it with my header image.
    Thanks. Great job!

There is a demo in the sidebar right on this page.

  • doryan

I have to really give it up to you, this is a great plug in. I used to have a rotate.php file for my header so the images would change everytime someone refreshed the browser…literally 10 minutes after installing flashfader, I had it running on my site’s header and its exactly what I wanted. Go here to check it out – http://www.yazbo.com. Again, great job.

  • jafer

It’s working great for me (now). I was having some trouble at first with Avant browser, with newly uploaded pictures only showing in Firefox at first.

So I ended up deleting all my temporary internet files, and then it started working as should in Avant too.

Thanks very much for the plugin. It’s great, and nicer than the one I had there before which was also one that reloaded images on refresh.

  • Tom

Thanks for this plugin. Good work!

    Request feature:… a link per image ?

For instance, it can redirect to the album where the img displayed, by the flash, is coming from.

  • Tom

    HI

    Notes:
    ———
Something annoying, the flashplayer is always on the top…
When you use layer (div), the flash is overriding the layer and z-index does nothing :((

I searched a little and it seems that it deponds on “wmode” (something like that). With wmode=transparent, under Windows, the flash is kept behind, but under linux it doesn’t work, still at the top :((

  • Hani

    I am getting this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: file_get_contents() in /var/www/users.kaski-net.net/morsi/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/flashfader.php on line 412

  • marcus

    Hi Hani,

it seems your PHP version is below 4.3.0. You should ask your host to update PHP.

  • Hani

    Ok. Thank you Marcus.
    Great plugin, by the way.

  • Nick

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am new to WP (for about a week now) and get this error when I loaded your code into the sidebar. Can you help?

Warning: main(/mnt/web_g/d38/s43/b0236e23/www/Test/nfblog/wp-content/flashfader/flashfaderhtml.txt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /mnt/web_g/d38/s43/b0236e23/www/Test/nfblog/wp-content/themes/GeminiBlue/sidebar.php on line 5

I don’t know anything about writing code, but I am trying to learn/understand. Thanks in advance.

  • marcus

    Hi Nick,

    did you activate the plugin?
As the second step you have to go to the Flashfader page under “Manage” in your wp control panel.
That should create the necessary files.

  • Nick

    OK
The error is gone, but it taking forever to load the page.
Do the images automatically resize or should I do that before loading them?
    What size should they be?

  • marcus

First set your desired size of the flash in the settings. Then upload the images, they will be resized according to those settings.

  • Nick

Sorry to be a pain, but I feel as if I am missing something.
Everything seems fine, but the pictures won’t display. I activated the plug-in. Went into the management, uploded images, but they do not display. I changed the background color, just to test that and it works fine.

Here is the site I am trying to build.
    http://eysasoccer.com/Test/nfblog/

  • Nick

Just to be sure, I uninstalled everything and then reinstalled it, with the same result.

  • marcus

You flashfader install is fine, problem is the reference to the files from the flash on the page.
Check if your main “Options” in the admin panel “WordPress address (URI)” and “Blog address (URI)” are set to “http://eysasoccer.com/Test/nfblog”

edit: And click “Save” in the flashfader settings to update the flashcode

  • Opie

OK, here’s what I get when I try to upload a picture:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreatefromjpeg() in /usr/local/apache/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/flashfader.php on line 323

I’d love to know how to fix this because I really want to use this plugin.

  • marcus

    Hi Opie,

either the library for the image manipulations (GD lib) is not installed at all on your server or your version of the GD lib is too old or your PHP version is below version 3.0.17 (unlikely).
Try to find if or what version of GD is installed.

  • Nick

I made those changes. Didn’t fix the problem. I tried reloading the images, still nothing.
    Any other ideas?

  • marcus

    Nick,

it seems you didn’t put the flashfader.swf in your plugins directory.

  • Nick

    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!
I had it inside the Flashfinder folder in the Plugins folder. I moved it into the plugins folder and my problems are solved.
Thanks for your help and the PlugIn!!

I can’t seem to get this running either. When I go to the manage Flash Fader page, there’s nothing there.

    Any ideas? Thanks :)

  • Res

I can’t seem to find the proper place to paste the code. I’m using the slaty stain theme and no matter where I put the code for the template(that shows at the bottom of the flashfader page) it doesn’t replace the header image, but shows up in some weird spot. I put the sizes of the images in on the flashfader page and saved, but I’ve got two things going on here. The plugin works, but shows up in a weird spot. Where do I put the code and in what template in the Slaty theme? And, why aren’t the images replaces the theme’s header image at all much less being the right size? They fade in and out yeah, just really teeny and in the wrong place even though I put in the sizes of the image. Now where to put the code in this theme, help?:) thanks!

  • marcus

    @isotropy
difficult. another user had the same problem a while ago and the reason was a conflict with another plugin (rumgallery).

  • Res

well pooey…don’t have the rumgallery plugin but I do have the amazone one, smallstats and the search thingy, I’ll try deactivating the other plugins and see what happens, still not sure where to put the code though, I’ve stuck it everywhere with no luck. I’m determined this is too cool NOT to use:)

  • Izmo

I uploaded the files into my plugin directory and then activated the plugin. When I go to the Manage page I get the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: imagecreate() in /usr/[...]/html/peoplehood/wp-content/plugins/flashfader.php on line 61

  • Res

OHMYGODNESS I got it to work. lol! For anyone else who might run into this problem using the slaty theme, here’s exactly where to put the code:

In header.php template do the following: find the section of code near the bottom that says
then right under that put the following: and click update. Make sure you have entered the correct image size and colors under Manage/flashfader and you’re all set. Whew!:)

  • Res

ok place the code under where it says div id=”header” it didn’t show in my previous post sorry:)

  • marcus

    @ Izmo
The library for image manipulation is not installed on your server.

  • Gautam

I was trying to get my data from Flickr to display using your excellent plugin. I hacked the code to store Flickr links in images.xml

I put the plugin in my sidebar and it worked! Well kind of. I couldn’t get it to loop the images. The loop setting is enabled (1) in the settings and I see looping=”yes” in images.xml as well. It ran through them once and then failed to loop through them.

Do the files have to be locally stored? Any guesses on why it’s not looping over the Flickr links?

  • Jeff

I installed the plugin in 1.5.2 and when I activated it, it gave the admin page, it allowed me to upload images but didn’t work.

I looked through FTP and found that it created the wp-content/flashfader/ folder and the folder contained 2 image files (1131872623_thumb.jpg, 1131872636_thumb.jpg) and nothing else. So obviously it didn’t create all the proper files.

I tried the uninstall and it will not remove the folder and thumbnails, and I can’t delete them with FTP either.

    What now?

  • eduardo

    Hi,
Can i use your plugin to embed different slideshows in separate posts? (i plan to use PHP Exec to run the php include in the posts).

  • Jorian

Sorry, i tried all the hints above, but nothing works… Looks like I’ve got the same problem as Jeff.

If I upload a file I only get small thumbnail files in the Flashfader directory. And when I refresh the homepage, nothing has changed, no matter where I placed the flashfader code. Even uninstalling the plugin doesn’t work, the directory stays and can’t be removed.

  • marcus

    Hi Jorian,
your (and Jeff’s) webhoster has probably a restriction on certain PHP commands and the one for creating/opening files seems to be one of them.
Ask our host why “fopen” in PHP doesn’t work, he might change it.

  • Jorian

Ok, thanks for your help! My webhoster turned of php safe mode, and i’ve got a stunning flash header now…

  • Jorian

    anyone experience with wp 2.0?

I do have a slight problem though that I was hoping that someone could help me with. My header image is just off center slightly.

I have a question or two (which might end up being feature requests)

    1) Can a link be associated with each image somehow?

    2) Is there a method to display multiple copies on the same page that display different things? (IE – I want to use this on a header and have a seperate slideshow on a sidebar)

Thanks for the plugin. Easy install. It is working great and looks good with the Squible Theme 2.5. Is there any way to code this so you can point it to an exsisting DIR and it read, resize and load the images? Or make it so that you can upload more than one image file at a time?

Just have found the flashfader-plugin, immediatly installed it and it works wonderful. Thanks a lot for that great gadget.

If one could bring together a galery plugin like mygallery with this plugin, it would be awesome. Like you can select which of your galeries will be used for flashfader. If you click on the flashfader the mygalery page opens and the galery title would be displayed above or below the flashfader. Just an idea.

But mainly I just wanted to thank for that great plugin.

  • Mario Medina

HI! it is a wonderful tool. But i see it lacks some useful features, like somethink like “batch upload” or a zip that contains a lot of images, and also to have more than one gallery per site. In my site i wish to have at least 2 galleries, one for my dog, and one for my trips. Can i ask you to add that feature? Also ftp uploading the pictures and putting it on a special folder to get flashplugins process them will be a nice feature.

I just implemented your plugin here http://pacura.ru in the sidebar for testing and it worked flawlessly. No I have a question:
before using your plugin I used a random excerpt plugin so basically I have a whole bunch of thumbnails in exactly the right size to be displayed for my site and I was curios if there was a way, either to point your flashplayer to another directory to take pictures from there or a way to copy over those thumbnails for use with the flashplayer so I do not have to reupload the originals again.

    Hi marcus,

first of all – thank You very much for that great plugin: Easy to install, easy to customize and even easier to use :D

    I just found a little annoyance – I’m using wordpress 2+ along with Lightbox on a weblog (not mine), and I put Your flash-header into… well… the header-image :)
Thing is, whenever I wanna open a lightboxed image, the flash-file is still on top of the image, not in the background.

I guess I am just too stupid, but I really need some help. Thanks in advance and have a great day!

    Hi all,
I don’t understand cos the plugin doesn’t run in my website. I insert the dir flashfader in /wp-content and /wp-content/plugins. I insert the 2 rows of php’s code, but it doesn’t work.

    Can anyone help me?

    Bye all

Thanks for a simple lightweight slideshow. You can visit my site to see how I am using it inside of wordpress postings. With a little bit of fiddling, I have got it down to just the swf, an images.xml file and the images. I put the object tags on a single line, pointing to the images.xml and Viola!

    Hello,
Just wondering if anyone could help. I did something stupid and started my blog using a numerical archive system, and now I'd like to change it so that the post title is part of the URL for SEO reasons. Is there any WordPress plugins that anyone knows of that could switch it without sending Googlers to invalid pages? Maybe some sort of redirector to the correct page?

    Thanks.

First off – Brilliant plug in. I get numerous comments regarding your flashfader.

Question – How could I add a second flashfader to the site? In some instances they’d be running on the same page. I’d like my header to “flashfade”.

Thank you in advance for any help given.

  • Ryder

Does anyone know the name of the wordpress plugin that creates a list of your posts in a category instead of just displaying them one after the other? I want it so that when someone clicks on a category they just get a list of posts from that category.

I'm sure Ive seen one…and sifting through the WP site is a nightmare

    Macus,
Thank for your contribution, your Flashfader is really nice. However, I have encountered a little problem that require your help.
Everything is fine for the plugin but I can only upload 5 pictures at most, while I upload the sixth one it just keeps processing a while and then return message “No Image Selected” and the picture can’t be loaded.
Is there any max no of pics or pics size for your plugin? If not, what do you think is the problem with my setting?
    My blog is http://www.joytogether.net/me/blog/
    Many thanks for your help!

    Regards, Joy

It seems to have stopped working in IE 7.0. It works with IE 6.0 and firefox 2.0. Does anyone encounter the same issue?

  • Lok

Well, yes, I’m using IE 7.0 for browsing, is it because I use IE 7.0 to login my WordPress and upload so can’t make it? Let me try another browser and see whether it’s work or not.

However, still want to clear whether it is the plugin issue or my website issue. Please advise if anybody knows what’s happen.

    Thanks,Max!

  • max

I personaly think it’s a combination of the plugin and the new Flash code changes implemented a while ago. Since now you need to call the “Object” tag from outside the actual html page. Anyway, I think that’s the culprit. On top of that when you look at the flash slideshow in IE7.0 you need to click to activate it but then still it doesn’t start playing. Microsoft has done it agin. Arghh. :-)

Is there anyway that i can get the Flashfader to appear behind the lightbox image?

I know many people use lightbox and i cant be the only one having this problem.

To solve the problem with lightbox read the following article.

Its an old and known problem…flash always is on top. you have to edit the file “flashfaderhtml.txt”

I have installed the flashfader plugin and activated it. However it has not created the new flashfader/ dir in the wp-content/. I think it still is rescaling the image, wich makes it blurry. I’m confused and need some help please!

    whereas it ought to read:
    wp-content/plugins/flashfader/flashfader.swf”

    Marcus,

    Great plugin!

Just a thought: I added to your code in order to allow suckerfish menus to display over the flash in Internet Explorer. This might be a nice addition to your future releases for those of us using your plugin as a header image just below a main navigation menu using suckerfish drop downs. Basically, this keeps flash from being conceited and feeling it should be on top of everything else.

  • Scott Motte

Hey, I eventually got this fix working: http://jactivating.sourceforge.net/en/

You basically upload the .js file to your theme’s directory, then add a bit of code to header.php or wherever your tags are (as explained at the above page), *making sure the path you specify in the code matches the location of the .js file* (e.g. wp-content/themes/k2/embeddedcontent.js) – this last part is crucial.

Having done that, flashfader now displays in IE with no annoying “click to activate” message. Hope this helps someone else.

Hi all… marcus, outstanding plugin, thank you.

Kate – thx for the how-to on getting rid of the ‘click to activate’ junk in IE. Worked great!

Now, I am having the same issue as a couple other posters here, in regards to the flash output being off-center by 1-2 pixels in relation to the rest of the page content (I’m using it as a header). Take a look at http://www.jenniferandkeith.org to see what I mean. ARGH!! ;) I’m playing with the stylesheet but it’s not working, and I figure it wont since the flash object is going directly into the div wrap (id=header) in the header.php file.

If anyone has any ideas how to resolve this, please lemme know.

  • Keith

Hah. Already solved the alignment issue. You have to play with the padding attribute in your stylesheet for #page… I set the right side to be offset by one pixel. Hope this helps anyone else having the same issue.

Hi – Love to plugin, its just what i need. I’m having a problem in ie 6&7 and firefox 2.0.0.13 on mac

My site has dropdown menus that layer over the flashfader content.

In ie, the flashfade content becomes an outline with the alt “click to activate this control’ displaying.

In firefox on Mac, it breaks. Once a menu is dropped down over it, it dissapears (and does not display the set background color) and pieces reappear as other menus drop over the flashfader content.

Could you please help me out? It would be much appreciated!

    Again, great plugin! Thanks

  • Kris

How exactly do you “activate the plugin”?

  • Mark

This is also what I need and have read about the mods for mac Firefox – but it hasn’t worked. It’s actually happening in Safari 3 too (the way I have coded it – see below.

First, I started out with the maker of the theme, who keeps a support forum also. I needed to check there since the template I’m using uses two images and the first thing was to change the code to make it work with one image, or so I thought. So here’s the original template code, followed by someone’s answer about how to change the code so that the template would work with one image, 960×100:

here is the original template code for two images/two divs:

    <!–

    <a href=”/”><img src=”/images/logo.gif” alt=”” />

    <a href=””><img style=”vertical-align:middle” src=”/images/rss.gif” alt=”Subscribe to ” /><a href=””>News Feed<a href=””><img style=”vertical-align:middle;margin-left:10px;” src=”/images/rss.gif” alt=”Subscribe to ” /><a href=””>Comments
    <img src=”/images/468×60.gif” alt=”Featured Ad” />

    –>

here is what was recommended be done to the header to make it one image:

    <!–<a href=”/” title=””>

    –>

I can send you a screenshot if it would help. I’d really like to use something exactly like this. I’m testing this on firefox mac 2.0.0.14 and safari 3.1

    cheers,

    Mark

Is there a way this plug-in works without the “images.txt” file and just with the data provided in the images.xml ? Then one is able to create several slideshows for different pages, by editing the xml manually ? i don’t really get why image data is stored in images.txt and images.xml?

beside that the plugin is great.

  • Ben

This is an excellent plugin. Not only does it fill a need – but it is easy to install and integrate into your website.

I have it working on WordPress 2.5.1 with the K2 theme.

  • Shelly

    Hi :)

I’m having the same issue as someone else up there towards the top.

GD Library is installed. (version 2.0.34)
    PHP 5.2.4
Flashfader.swf *is* in the plugins directory.
All paths are pointing to their proper places.
The Blog/URl options are set just as they are supposed to be.

I *am* running 2.5.1 – I have it working just fine on another server running 2.5.1 – but on this one, the flash “box” is just a blank white box – no images.

I’ve already uninstalled/installed, and deactivated all other plugins – still no go.

Like I said, it’s running fine on the testbed server, but when I moved the site to the new one, it stopped working. The plugin is activated and running – just no images.

    Any ideas for me?

  • Shelly

How bizarre. Now it’s showing (guess it takes some time?) but all the images are cropped to the default size set by the plugin, instead of the size we set in the settings.

  • Anthony

    Hi,

“You can place the code in any template file,
just make sure it is placed in html and not within tags.” ???

I’m impressed that it manages to work so well over such a wide range of WordPress versions. One thing that I don’t like is how many plugins etc. don’t work over many different WordPress versions. I can understand if its a new plugin on the scene and so the developer can’t code it to work with previous versions. But, the fact is that there are a lot of plugins that have been around and for some reason they just don’t work on previous versions anymore with the way that the plugin is being updated etc.

    Hi,
I’m new to WordPress. I downloaded your plug in (thanks so much! I’m trying to put together a blog for someone and she wanted flash in the header…I was at a loss til I found your plugin!). here’s the problem I’m having…I can’t read code – well, sort of, a little teeny bit. I install the plugin in the header of the theme she wants, but it moves the content around (the body of the posts). I don’t know enough to figure out how to adjust that. Am I just out of luck, or should I try a friendlier theme? I’m using “evening alone” – you can find it in a google search. It does not have a line like you described in your header – the line. Player works great though!

  • Yvonne

    * it took out a line I wrote – I am referring to the “div id =” line, it doesn’t have that.

This is the only plug-in I can find that says it does all these functions. However, it has not been updated since 2005-9-13 on WordPress.org and here it looks like maybe 2007.

Does someone else need to take this project over? I would rather host my own media rather than use Flickr or Picasa like the other plug-ins do.

  • Blaise

    Hello,
I have installed this plugin onto my worpress blog and unfortunately cannot seem to intergrate in correctly.
my aim is to intergrae this plugin for my header on the following site: http://www.leysinpark.ch yet I don’t understand where to put the php code: .
I have uploaded pictures, done all the setting and nothing seems to work.

The line of code I am working with which calls for my header is :

    <a href=”/”><img src=”/images/header_.gif” alt=”” />

This line of code is located in my header.php file. Is this the appropriate location? Where do I insert the line of code in here. Obviously my code calls for 5 pictures to show up randomly. How do I intergrate the new code?

    Thanks

  • Blaise

I’ve been using this for a while and I love it. but I have one compliant: I have about 20 photos in the slide show rotating at about 6 seconds, and when I do that it would repeat many images before going to new images.

I didn’t want to use sequential mode because the same image would always show up every time someone viewed the blog, and I wanted a new image to appear each time it was viewed.

So there is no way to do this huh?

The images are not showing and when i check it turns out the flashfader.swf can not be found, althou it is present in the directory set with good access rights. What can be the issue here?
    Thanks alot for your ideas…
    Raf

  • Brendon

I’ve finally got this to work on WordPress 2.7. As Choco says, make sure to put the two files (flashfader.swf and flashfader.php) into the plugin root folder. Install the plugin in the admin panel. If there are any images you uploaded or anything else in the Flashfader Administration panel – delete them and start again. Set the dimensions of your banner, save your project, upload your images of the same size. Save again. Insert where you want your flash to appear, and it should all display perfectly.

I am having a weird issue with this plugin. I installed and activated the plugin, but the settings page will not accept any changes. It continues to say “To finish your update to Version 1.1 click “Save” in the Display Settings section.”. My hosting company is not willing to help me troubleshoot the issue. Where can I get some help?

    Hi Markus,
Was mache ich falsch? Kann ich die Bilder im Template überhaupt mit diesem Flashfader ändern? Wie kann ich Bilder uploaden und wohin?
Wäre super, wenn du mir helfen könntest. Vielen Dank im Voraus und herzliche Grüße ausTralien
    Petra

  • bimbolera

to everyone i’ve found the solution! you must place the .swf file found in the plugins>flashfader to plugins folder alone… gets? copy the .swf from flashfader folder and move up another folder and paste it. my problem was solved by this!

  • michel

Thanks bimbolera, I confirm yoou got the right idea. It works fine again.
Just put a copy of the swf file in the plugins folder.

I have installed the 2 files to up ftp site, and then activated through WP. When i go to upload my images, i get a message saying “sorry! Jpeg only”. All these images are jpegs and are sized accordingly. Would lovvvvveeee some advice. Thanks!!

  • sam

    OK guys:

Move the file flashfader.swf directly under your plugin Dir

Images: Before you upload your images make sure that the width and height are set correctly and that’s what you want in your template. Meaning if you have the script set at 600×200 then when you upload your images it will be corp to 600×200

    Good Luck :)

  • Karen

I’ve used this plugin and it worked fine before but now when i tried to add another picture it won’t let me. Sigh.

  • Renee

This is just what I need on a new site I’m working on, but the plug-in doesn’t seem to be accessible from WP 2.8. When I click on the FlashFader option in the Posts menu, I get an error page.

  • Renee

It seems my problem has something to do with not being able to create or find files.

  • John

Anthony, I am using this on 2.8.4 with no problems. I have it on the very top of the sidebar. It is a brand new site with the latest WP version.

Where did you try to put it?

You upload right on the Flashfader Administration page (in the Posts section), right below the settings area.

Hi, I also am having trouble with the sf dropdown menu displaying behind the flashfader. I would love to know a solution to the problem, does not seem to be posted in the commets.

It is not doing it in firefox, but is in all the other browsers.

  • JonnyRogue

    Chris above said z-index does work for placing FlashFader behind menus. So perhaps creating a div around the flashfader PHP code and placing the following in your CSS file: #flash {position:relative; z-index:-1}

  • JonnyRogue

Found the answer to the z-index issue with menus etc. hiding behind FlashFader. You have to put it in its own “div” and embed it as an “object” to get it to work. I followed the Instructions here: http://wpremix.com/support/topic.php?id=2488 and it worked perfectly for me

  • Vicky

JonnyRogue, I can’t thank you enough. That has fixed my issue!

  • Vicky

Hi, this is a great plugin thanks.

I do have a problem with the display of my images. It works fine on all browsers – or so it seems! Although works fine on one IE8 version (my husband’s) it cuts of on my client’s IE8. I’m so dumbfounded right now, can’t for the life of me figure out why the right and bottom of all the sideshows cut of on his computer. I haven’t got access to any more computers to see if it is just his computer though.

If anyone has any ideas please drop me a line.

  • ath

James mentioned (4 & 5 posts up) that he had problems getting the images to fit properly in the flashfader box. I was having the same issue because the computer I used to set-up the site was (inadvertently) zoomed at 125%. I couldn’t figure out why the images fit wouldn’t correctly on other machines. I now know (thanks James!)…but I still see this as a slight problem: When others viewing the site have their IE zoomed differently, they will also see incorrectly sized images (mine has probably been that way for over a year and I didn’t know it, but I use it everyday). Is there a way to work around this?

GREAT plugin and very user friendly. I am a rookie to WordPress (this was my first plugin) and I easily figured how to use it exactaly like I wanted to.

(PS: if visiting site, I linked to a temporary folder as it is in draft form. Hopefully within the week, you will just remove “/wordpress” to visit the ‘final’ site).

Suggested fixes to the image size/IE zoom issue will be much appreciated!

    Dear Marcus Grellert,

I work for Find Net Solutions and we were recommended to use your remarkable plug-in to make possible having a flash slideshow in my wordpress sites header.

However, whilst I did follow the instructions given to me in the TXT File “how_to_use”. After I enabled the plug-in, it was not to be found in the admin panel, under the submenu item “Flashfader” as it was described. I am currently using WordPress Version 2.9.1 and Flashfader 1.1.1.

I would love to know what I am doing wrong with the installation process. If you can spare some of your time to help me I would greatly appreciate it.

  • Rakesh

  • KT

I’ve used FF for a while now and since upgrading to 2.9.1 it no longer works for me. I’d love an upgrade when you have one!! :D

  • Christina

It will work in 2.9.1. Don’t use the Add New under the Plugins. Doing so places Flashfader into it’s own folder, e.g., plugins/flashfader.

You need to FTP the 2 files over.

    Hope that helps!

    @Christina..
You are a lifesaver! This fixed my IE8 issues as well.

FTP flashfader.php and flashfader.swf into the plugins folder as well as where it defaults to (plugins/flashfader folder) and your slideshow should display in both Firefox & IE8.

Flashfader depends on the GD lib, functions that support image creation and modification.’
    Is this fatal?

Now that the server supports GD, the plugin works fine in the sidebar in WP 2.9.2. but it places itself outside the header when code inserted in header.php

Is there a way to put the fader like a banner above the posts like on this wordpress site?

    http://stancrawford.com/

  • Nancy

I have tried Flashfader twice now. I have put the code in my homepage.php here:

It is not working. I have put the NextGen Gallery back into the website until I can find a fix. I would like to use your Flashfader as it seems easier and neater and doesn’t have to have the JWPlayer attached.

    Please help.

Sorry but with win 7 and i.e. 8 don’t work fine with me :-(

    Hi there,

I have installed the plugin and works fine in Firefox but not IE7, any ideas why?

  • Valerie Jefferies

Hi, Thanks for creating this plugin. I managed to get it set up on my site, tested images and everything works. However, the flash slide show is covering up some of my menu at the top and I’d like to either put it below the menu or remove the menu altogether and have the slideshow link to my news page when clicked? Could someone please advise me how to accomplish both because I like the way the slideshow roll’s. Cheers. I’m viewing it in the current version of firefox atm.

    My slideshow is here:

I just came back to post and say that I found a solution to my menu problems and to assist others who may drop by with the same problem of their menu disappearing behind the slide show here is what I did.

Goto wpcontent folder using you FTP client and open the “flashfader” folder that was created when you created your slide show. Inside that folder open “flashfaderhtml.txt” file and immediately following:

    Add:

Then save it. Then open up the “images.xml” file and find this:

    And change it to this:

Then save it.Now your menu should appear over the slideshow. Cheers for the plugin. Works great and is really light weight.

  • Valerie Jefferies

Sorry disappeared. lol. Here it is again:

I just came back to post to say that I found a solution to my menu problems and to assist others who may drop by with the same problem of their menu disappearing behind the slide show.

Goto the folder “flashfader” in wpcontent and open the flash fader file and immediately following:

    object type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” data=”http://www.yoursite.com/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/flashfader.swf” width=”900″ height=”600″

    Add:

param name=”wmode” value=”opaque” (Contained within the same wrappers – sorry dont know what they’re referred to)

Then save it. Then open up the images.xml file and find the follwoing in the wrappers:

    gallery timer=”5″ order=”sequential” fadetime=”2″ looping=”yes” xpos=”0″ ypos=”0″

    And change it to this:

    gallery timer=”5″ order=”sequential” fadetime=”2″ looping=”yes” xpos=”0″ ypos=”0″ wmode=”opaque”

Then save the document. Now your menu should appear over the slideshow.

    Hi Guys,

Flashfader has been up and running now for months which is great. However, my only gripe is the images are rotating way too quickly. I change the settings in the control panel but yet it doesn’t seem to have any effect when someone is looking at the actual page.

    Any ideas??

    Cheers

    found an issue
the Plugin directs to the swf file in the plugin directory, but its not there
its actually in a folder called flashfader

  • Peter Masters

just check if the folder is correct
mine was point to the file in the plugin, but it was in a folder
just edit the plugin php file and add the /flashfader/ before the flashfader.swf at all instances where plugins/flashfader.swf

and then delete and reload all your images

I am having two different issues. I use Flashfader at the top of my blog. It has been running just fine but I can’t seem to get the images to change to the news ones that I uploaded. I went into my admin and clicked Flashfader under posts. I uploaded 5 new images after deleting the old ones. The thumbnails show up under my images, but when I go to the blog the old images are still there and the new ones are not. How can I fix this?

My second issue is that Flashfader covers part of the text at the top of my blog. Is there a way to prevent this?

Got it to work! If anyone else has this problem you will need to upload the flashfader files directly with your ftp. I had first tried to upload through the plugins and that kind of worked. Oh, and make sure you uninstall in wordpress before reuploading to your ftp. Love Flashfader, thank you! :)

    Hi there
I need your assistance please. i have loaded your latest flashfader onto my wp. Activated it. Managed it with a few pics loaded. My problem, it is not displaying the pics on my website… You can see there should be something, it is just not displaying. I have read before that you need to put the flashfader.swf file in the plugins directory… but I do not understand what that means. I loaded the plugin as a .zip file as it asked me to and it won’t load the .swf file on its own??? Please explain to me like I was 5 cos I obviously don’t understand at my current age. I am determined to get it to work as I want the flashfader in my header. Please can you help… this is holding me up.
    Thanks so very much.
